Few automobiles played a more significant role in introducing Americans to the joys of lightweight British sports cars than the MG TC. Although never officially imported by the factory, thousands found their way to the United States with returning servicemen following World War II, inspiring an entire generation of enthusiasts and helping launch the British sports car movement. Today, the MG TC remains one of the most collectible and recognizable post-war MGs ever produced. This outstanding example was imported to the United States in 1951 and remained with the same American family for 70 years before being acquired by its current Massachusetts owner in 2021. Throughout its life, the car has been enthusiast-owned, properly maintained, carefully garaged, and thoughtfully preserved rather than over-restored—qualities that are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Since taking ownership, the current caretaker has invested more than $13,000 in mechanical and cosmetic improvements while respecting the car's originality. Tasteful safety upgrades include discreetly installed brake lights, windshield wipers on the fold-down windshield, and seat belts to satisfy Massachusetts inspection requirements without compromising the MG's authentic appearance. Finished in striking red, the all-steel body remains exceptionally straight with excellent panel fit and finish. The dashboard features original Jaeger instrumentation, including tachometer, ammeter, water temperature and oil pressure gauges, along with a passenger grab handle. A handsome new 15-inch wood three-spoke steering wheel is currently fitted, while the original 17-inch steering wheel accompanies the sale. Power comes from the original numbers-matching 1,250cc XPAG inline four-cylinder engine equipped with dual SU carburetors , new radiator and paired with its original four-speed manual transmission. The engine starts easily, runs smoothly, and delivers the lively, engaging driving experience that established the MG TC as one of Britain's most beloved sports cars. To improve the steering & shifting on the car, the current owner replaced the original steering box and shifter to one from VW greatly improving the car's handling. Adding to the car's desirability is an extensive history file containing decades of maintenance records, receipts, and ownership documentation that helps establish its impressive provenance. The original tool kit is included, and Massachusetts buyers have the unique opportunity to acquire the desirable MGTC48 vanity license plate through transfer. A few minor things that may require attention if desired are that the Temp gauge is not currently working but with new radiator, the car runs without issue. The speedometer was rebuilt but the odometer resets itself to "900" once it goes beyond 999.
