1931 Essex Super Six Project

1931 Essex Super Six Project for sale in Hingham, MA

Vehicle Description

Zoom Classic Cars presents this very rare 1931 Essex Super Six Rumble Seat Coupe Project Car. 100% solid, complete and rust free car purchased by the current owner a few years ago with hopes of building a Street Rod but recent health concerns are now forcing the sale. Car was in excellent overall condition and was running when purchased and was easily disassembled with every screw coming off without much effort. Every panel on the car is rust free and in excellent condition and every single part has been kept if someone were interested in putting the car back together. Only a minor dent about the size of a quarter exists on the right rear fender and could easily be fixed. Car was equipped with a flathead 6 cylinder that was running and coupled with a 3 Speed manual transmission on the floor. Interior was equipped with a bench seat with fold down armrests and roll down rear window. Leather covered rumble seat. The Essex was a brand of automobile produced by the Essex Motor Company between 1918 and 1922 and by Hudson Motor Company of Detroit, Michigan between 1922 and 1933. Essex cars were designed to be moderately priced cars which would be affordable to the average family. Proving durable, their capabilities were checked upon and confirmed by AAA and the United States Post Office. In 1919 an Essex completed a 50-hour, 3,037.4 miles (4,888.2 km) endurance test in Cincinnati, Ohio, at an average speed of 60.75 miles per hour. The early Essex cars also captured many hill climb records. In a special Essex race car, Glen Shultz won the 1923 Pikes Peak Hill Climb. It had a 108.5-inch (2,760 mm) wheelbase. Initially Essex marketed a line of touring cars (open four-door cars with canvas tops), which was the most popular body style of cars in production at the time. While Essex added an enclosed sedan in 1920, it was the introduction of the 1922 closed coach, priced at $1,495, $300 above that of the touring car. By 1925 the coach was priced below the touring car. While Henry Ford is credited with inventing the affordable car, it was Essex that made the enclosed car affordable. This Project car is stored in MA with clean title in the owner's name and comes with some documentation including previous ownership, restoration photos, wiring diagrams and other miscellaneous info. Tremendous opportunity for the Essex enthusiast or for restorer/builder to create a unique hot rod vehicle that will stand out at car shows. Call Jeff for more information or to arrange a viewing.
