Vehicle Description
Zoom Classic Cars is proud to present this survivor 1978 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40. Current owner bought it in 2005. The 1978 Toyota FJ40 Cruiser is an iconic and rugged off-road vehicle that has captured the hearts of adventurers and vintage car enthusiasts around the world. Known for its legendary durability, go-anywhere capability, and timeless design, the FJ40 Cruiser has become a symbol of exploration and adventure.
Current owner has replaced brakes, replaced the radiator, and fixed a leak in the transfer case. The vehicle has been stored inside at least the last 19 years. The Dune Beige paint looks great, and is believed to be the original paint, though there are a few bubbles as shown in the photos just above the rear driver’s side taillight. There are tiny nicks in the paint in one small (1 inch X 2 inch) area on the back door above the license plate. You really have to look to find them, but they are included in one photo. The vehicle is solid metal all throughout every panel. The 1978 FJ Cruiser is equipped with a 258 cubic inch straight-six engine which generates 135 horsepower that is transferred to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission that has high range 2WD as well as both a low and high range 4WD and manual overdrive. The truck is equipped with manually locking front hubs. The vehicle stops with front hydraulic disc brakes, and drum rear brakes. The rear suspension features springs with a live axle, and the front features semi-elliptic. Side mirrors, ambulance-style rear doors, a rear step, and a rear tire carrier are additional elements. The interior of the 1978 FJ40 Cruiser is simple yet functional, with a focus on durability and usability. The cabin features a rugged and practical design, with vinyl seats, a basic instrument panel, and large control knobs for easy operation. Speedometer, odometer, temperature and amperage gauges all function properly. There are two fuel tanks on the vehicle, and only one of the fuel gauges works. The oil pressure gauge does not function. The vehicle also includes windshield wipers, cigarette lighter, heater, and original AM radio that all function properly (though the radio antenna has been broken off as shown in photos). While the steering wheel is not original the vehicle is also updated with power steering, and tilt wheel. All original interior door panels are clean, black vinyl, as well as the front bucket, and rear jump seats. The headliner is the original white perforated material. The sunroof operates as it should. Seals around the perimeter of the roof appear to be fully intact and functional, though the current owner has never taken the vehicle out in the rain. The hardtop does come off the vehicle as designed. The vehicle is equipped with non-original sporty chrome wheels, and off-road tires. As noted, other than the wheels, tires, steering wheel, brakes and radiator, the vehicle is believed to be all original. The owner does have documentation regarding these replacement items.
